Any patch type can be finished with different backings — and the backing decides how (and how permanently) the patch attaches. Here is how to choose.</p><h2>Iron-on (heat-seal)</h2><p>A heat-activated adhesive film on the back. Fast to apply with a household or industrial press, ideal for garments and caps. Not recommended for waterproof or very heavy fabrics.</p><h2>Sew-on</h2><p>The most durable option — the patch is stitched on, either with a plain edge or a merrowed (overlocked) border. Best for jackets, bags and anything heavy-duty.</p><h2>Velcro (hook-and-loop)</h2><p>Makes the patch removable and swappable.
