<p>I'll be honest about this one. Custom soccer jersey manufacturing: from club kits to retail lines comes up in 70% of the conversations I've with new clients. So instead of writing another generic guide, I'm going to share what actually happens when a brand asks us this, using the answers I've been giving for 17 years.</p># Custom Soccer Jersey Manufacturing: From Club Kits to Retail Lines

Soccer jersey manufacturing is one of the most active segments in the custom sportswear market, and for good reason. Every club from grassroots Sunday league teams to semi-professional academies needs kits. Brands are tapping into the global soccer culture for lifestyle collections. And the technical Standards for a quality jersey are achievable at relatively modest order quantities.

We manufacture custom soccer jerseys for clubs, academies, and sportswear brands across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The requirements are consistent: performance fabrics, precise sublimation printing, excellent fit, and durable construction. Here is how to get it right.!Custom soccer jersey showing sublimation print with club crest and sponsor placement

Performance Fabric Choices for Custom Soccer Jerseys

Soccer jerseys are among the most demanding performance garments to produce. They need to manage moisture aggressively during intense activity, dry quickly, maintain their shape through repeated high-intensity washing, and take sublimation printing to achieve the bold graphics that club culture demands.

The dominant fabric for custom soccer jerseys is 100% polyester interlock or single jersey, typically 130 to 160 GSM. This GSM range keeps the jersey light and breathable while providing enough fabric density for good sublimation print quality.

Key fabric specifications to include in your tech pack:

Moisture-wicking treatment. The polyester fiber itself has some inherent moisture-wicking properties due to its hydrophobic nature. But a moisture-wicking chemical treatment applied to the fabric surface significantly improves performance. Specify whether you want this treatment.

Anti-odor treatment. Increasingly popular, especially for clubs whose players train frequently. Silver-ion or other anti-microbial treatments reduce the bacterial growth that causes odor. Worth specifying for premium kits.

Mesh or perforated panels. Many soccer jerseys incorporate a more open-knit or perforated fabric in the underarm and side panels for additional ventilation. This adds complexity to the cut-and-sew but meaningfully improves breathability during intensive play. If you want this feature, it needs to be in your tech pack with the panel placement defined precisely.

Sublimation Printing: The Standard for Custom Soccer Kits

For custom soccer jerseys, sublimation printing is the overwhelmingly dominant production method, and for good reason.!Sublimation printing process for custom soccer jerseys and sportswear

Sublimation allows:

  • Full-color, photographic-quality printing across the entire garment including seams
  • Complex designs with gradients, multiple colors, and fine detail
  • No additional weight or texture from the print — it becomes part of the fabric
  • No cracking, peeling, or fading (sublimation inks are extremely durable
  • Per-jersey personalization (individual names and numbers) within a single production run
  • The process works by printing your design onto transfer paper and heat-pressing it onto the polyester fabric before cutting and sewing). Because the print is applied to fabric panels before assembly, the design can run continuously across seams, creating a seamless visual effect.

For clubs needing name and number personalization, we print each panel set with the individual player's information. The cost difference between a personalized jersey and a blank jersey is relatively small when you are already doing sublimation and the setup is the expensive part, not the individual prints.

    Jersey Construction and Fit Considerations

A quality soccer jersey has several construction details worth specifying carefully:

Neckline style. The three main options are V-neck (the most common for soccer), crew neck (popular for training and casual wear), and collar with placket (more formal, less common in modern soccer kits). Specify neckline depth and finish (binding tape, self-fabric fold, or rib knit band).

Sleeve construction. Soccer jersey sleeves should allow full arm movement without restriction. Set-in sleeves cut from the same sublimated fabric. Sleeve hem finish: typically a binding tape or self-fabric fold-over of 1.5 to 2 cm.

Side panels and vents. Traditional soccer jerseys have side panels sewn from a separate fabric piece — sometimes in a contrasting color or different mesh for ventilation. Modern jerseys often use a side seam with a small curved hem vent at the bottom for range of motion.

Body length. Soccer jerseys typically fall 5 to 8 cm below the natural waist. Longer for players who tuck in, slightly shorter for a contemporary athletic look.

Weight of binding tape. Any tape used for neckline, armhole, or hem finishing should be specified. The tape color should be part of your design, and the width should be consistent.

    Numbering and Name Systems

For club kits with player numbers and names, you have two production approaches:

Integrated sublimation: Numbers and names are part of the sublimated print. This produces the cleanest result, No separate application step, no peeling risk. Best for kits where the lineup is confirmed before production. The limitation is inflexibility — if a player is added after production, their number can't be added without a new jersey.

Applied numbers and names: Numbers and names are applied separately after sublimation, using either heat transfer vinyl, flocked lettering, or sewn-on numbers. This allows flexibility — you can produce blank jerseys and apply numbers later. Applied numbering tends to be slightly less durable than integrated sublimation over many wash cycles.

For most club situations, I recommend integrated sublimation if your lineup is stable. For leagues or academies that have high player turnover, applied numbers provide the flexibility you need.

MOQ and Turnaround for Club Kits

Custom soccer jerseys with full sublimation are one of the more accessible custom sportswear products in terms of MOQ. At Mughal Apparel, we start at 50 pieces per design, making it accessible even for smaller clubs.

For a 50-piece club kit with personalized names and numbers, the typical process is:

    1. Submit design artwork and player list

    2. We produce a digital proof showing each player's jersey

    3. You review and approve proofs

    4. Production runs 15 to 20 days

    5. Delivery worldwide

If you're producing a retail sportswear line rather than a specific club kit, the design is fixed and production can be slightly faster since there is no personalization variable.

For an all-in kit that includes jersey, shorts, and goalkeeper jerseys, we can manage the entire kit as a coordinated production run with consistent sublimation across all pieces.
